First-Annual-Bourne-High-School-Lobster-Fest-to-Take-Place-on-Thursday-June-16
Bourne, MA-June 2, 2005-
Before you take the time to sit and order at a seafood restaurant,
come and join the BHS MY TURN students in their Lobster Fest. The
Lobster Fest is taking place in the high school cafeteria on June
16 at 6:00 PM. The cost is $20 for adults and $12.50 for children
under 12 years old. A portion of the proceeds will be donated
to the National Marine Life Center in Buzzard's Bay. This festival
is providing a community service learning experience and introducing
local culinary flavor to the MY TURN students.
The Lobster Fest is a community collaborative between Cape Cod Community
College, Bourne High School's Business Program, MY TURN, Inc., Cape
Corps, Grand Union Family Markets, Lobster Trap Company, Inc., Honey
Dew Donuts, and JTEC of Cape and Islands.
The menu will consist of Lobster Rolls, Seafood Newburg, Chicken
Marsala, rice and garden salads, along with desserts and beverages.
Bourne High School students have been involved in the project planning
and will help in preparation, set up, cleanup and entertainment.
"The students are excited and anxious to see it all come together,"
said Ms. Mackie, MY TURN Career Specialist. She added, "I am
overwhelmed that so many people are interested in helping make this
Lobster Fest a success."
David Hamilton, a student maitre d' for the evening said, "I
am extremely excited for the event which will help the Marine Life
cause."
Amanda King, also a maitre d' for the festival has said, "We
are all very excited for the evening. We have been working very
hard to put this event together. We hope that everyone who purchases
a ticket will come."
The Lobster Fest is an inter-departmental community service-learning
project at Bourne High School. The BHS students have been key players
in each part of putting this event together. MY TURN, Inc. and Bourne
High School have become partners in providing job readiness training
and career development to students in grades 9-12. The program focuses
on teaching students the tools a person needs to become a successful
employee as well as helps direct the students in choosing a career
path.
