The NMLC is working with government

the Cape Cod Canal. The NMLC has a 50-year lease with the town at
$1 per year.
2. The NMLC has earned grants from Barnstable County through the
county's economic development corporation competitive grant program,
known as the License Plate Grant Program, and an allocation from
the County Commissioners and the Assembly of Delegates to help care
for the animals in the interim facility.
3. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts has allocated $250,000 in the
FY01 budget for NMLC construction and $50,000 in FY05 to help care
for the animals in the interim facility.
4. The state's Ready Resource Fund has awarded the NMLC, in partnership
with the Town of Bourne, a grant of $50,000 to support permitting
activities and expenses.

construction. This is the first time the federal government has
provided funds for a facility to help meet the federal mandate of
The Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972.
